Guzmán Sánchez, PhD
Co-founder / Projects Director
The lab coat was my dress code for almost 10 years but I would always choose the desk over the bench. The truth is I much preferred communicating science than doing it. So, I started to drift into other worlds: I wrote and translated science outreach articles, worked on proposal drafting and managed the communication of EU projects. Also, on the non-professional side of things, I have always loved to explore photography, writing and music as a means of expression. We all know that history is not linear but, for the purpose of these lines, we would say that this mixed backgrounds led me to start Scienseed with Lucas. Five years down the line, the adventure is still going on and I currently run the Projects Department.
My interest for audiovisual arts led me to study Film and TV Production. For several years, I have applied my organisational skills to project management, event planning and digital marketing. I managed international projects, improving effectiveness and efficiency of communications plans, working cross-functionally with marketing, sales and customer service teams. Currently I’m the Account Executive at Scienseed, responsible for project management and customer relationships.
Estela Cepeda, PhD
After years of academic life, first during my Biology studies in Spain and later during my PhD in Germany, I realised that I was missing something: I needed to get out of the lab to witness the impact of science on the real world. With my creative restlessness and my eagerness to embark on new adventures I joined Scienseed in 2016, where I work as a Science Communicator and Project Manager. My academic experience allows me to understand the needs and complexity in this sector, insights that I translate into multiformat communication materials. Also, the organisational and multicultural communication skills acquired along the way have become my best allies to successfully write proposals and manage European projects and to orchestrate the workflow of the company.
Back in high school, I chose to study Audiovisual Communication because I sought to understand theories of oral, written and multimedia communication. I had a keen interest in social and cultural phenomena. After several professional experiences in mass media companies, I actually realized that my interest in communication lies on social exchange, which in addition to my organizational and multitasking skills, led me to be responsible for projects and events management, both in the private and the public sector. I join Scienseed to be part of the projects department, interacting with clients and my team daily, adding value by applying new thoughts and creativity.
Lucas Sánchez, PhD
Co-founder / Director
I have worked in a research laboratory, on the radio, in a newspaper and as a teacher of modern harmony and jazz. In this particular melting pot, I acquired diverse skills and a growing curiosity: to explore the possibilities that each format offers to communicate knowledge and innovation. That’s why I co-founded Scienseed with Guzmán. Currently, I’m the director of the company and I’m in charge of the Communication and Creativity Department.
Juan José Sáenz de la Torre
I’ve worked as a storyteller under a planetarium dome, in front of local radio microphones and behind the scenes organising a science festival. Now I’m interested in exploring how science communication can build upon data analysis to tell more compelling stories. Currently, I’m a science communicator at Scienseed, writing for different formats and developing new approaches towards Social Media analytics.
Science Communicator & Illustrator
My fascination with nature led me to study Biology at university. During those years, I spent a lot of time browsing through the illustrations I found in botany, zoology or anatomy books. I realised how important those diagrams were for me to understand the complex scientific concepts behind. That’s why I decided to branch out to graphic design and study a Scientific Illustration MA. In Scienseed, I get to merge my knowledge in design and biology to communicate science using all the advantages that each format provides.
I have always nurtured a strong curiosity to figure out how nature works. This led me to embark on a Biotechnology BSc and, afterwards, to work in different research laboratories. At the same time, I have always been passionate about writing stories, so I eventually decided to branch out and take an MA in Creative Writing. I soon realized that science actually is a fascinating story about the world that surrounds us. Currently, I work as a science communicator in Scienseed, exploiting my storytelling skills to disseminate scientific knowledge and adapting it to different audiences and formats.
Focusing my career on infographics and scientific illustration since day one has led me to work as an information designer for newspapers, organisations and universities around the globe. I’ve combined this with my experience in the field learning first-hand about my second passion: ecology. I’m currently the art director of Scienseed and I have a particular focus on conservation and environment-related projects.
In recent years I worked as a graphic communicator in a product design studio, where I learned to give identity to spaces and objects, I have designed both publishing and digital publications and acquired extensive experience in branding and corporate communication. In parallel, my passion for audiovisual narrative led me to collaborate in the filming of several short films and video clips. Eventually, I got to combine my passion with my design skills in Scienseed, where I’m in charge of animation and motion graphics projects.
